Family history event in Devon

If you live in or are visiting the South Devon area, you may want to take advantage of a free local family history event In Newton Abbot, Devon this weekend. It's a 2 day event, starting today and continues on Saturday 16th November from 9am to 3.30pm. It's run by the South Devon Family History Club, along with Devon Family History Society, and is the sixth Family History Weekend they have organised. The event will be held at the Passmore Edwards Centre in Newton Abbot. It should be of interest to family historians of all levels. There will be researchers on hand to help with all those frustrating genealogy queries we all come across!

West Surrey Family History Open Day

This Saturday, the 26th October, (in what promises to be a busy weekend for family history fairs) sees the West Surrey Family History Society Open Day in Woking. After a popular fair last year, it promises to be a good one again this year. Open from 10am to 4pm, there's a number of family history societies, suppliers and specialist help desks available. With a number of 'taster talks' on offer including looking at the information you can find from a photograph, local war memorials and the topic of DNA  in family history, there's a talk of interest for everyone!There's also free parking available.  More information is available from the West Surrey Family History Society website at http://www.wsfhs.org/pages/openday.php

Family history event in Ireland

If you live in Ireland or have an interest in Irish family history, you may wish to make it along to  the Irish genealogy event this weekend in Dublin. It's called 'Back to our Past'  and is at the RDS  Industries Hall in Dublin. From Friday the 18th October to Sunday 20th October the event  is on, with doors open from 11am to 7pm. There's a number of exhibitors and also The Association of Professional Genealogists in Ireland (APGI) will be offering a free advisory service,  so if you have any queries the experts are on hand! Places still available for SOG Course

The excellent courses available from the Society of Genealogists in London are well worth taking a look at and there's a free course coming up on Wednesday the 23 October. There's only a few places left for the short course on 'Getting the most from the Society Catalogue'. It's from 10.30 to 11.30 and features guidance from the society's librarian, Tim Lawrence. Forthcoming Family History Fair

This Saturday (12th October) sees the annual Glamorgan Family History Society Fair. It promises to be another popular fair held in South Wales at Merthyr Tydfil Leisure Centre, Merthyr Tydfil from 10am to 4pm. Both admisssion and car parking are free and there's also a number of free talks available to attend. Presenters announced for 5th Unlock the Past Cruise Programme

Latest news from 'Unlock the Past' cruises is the announcement of the family history speakers that will provide the talks on board the cruise around the British Isles. On board the Marco Polo cruise ship will be a selection of experts including Paul Blake, Jackie Depelle, Marie Dougan, Jayne Shrimpton, Lisa Louise Cooke, Rosemary Kopittle, Mike Murray, Lesley Silvester and Helen Smith. The initial itinerary is for there to be about 40 topics discussed in 25 sessions. More details will no doubt be announced closer to the event in July next year. Family history event this weekend

The Oxfordshire Family History Society 2013 Open Day is this forthcoming Saturday, 5th October and is to be held at The Marlborough School just outside Woodstock. The Open Day will feature an assortment of visiting Family History Societies, publishers, dealers in second hand books and postcards, and more. Opening times are 10am to 4pm and there is ample car parking available. Admission to the Open Day is free, as is the on-site car park. Family History Fair in Blackburn

Tomorrow (Saturday 14th September) sees  the North West Group of Family History Societies and Lancashire Family History & Heraldry Society (who are proudly celebrating their 40th anniversary in 2013) presenting their Family History Day Fair in Blackburn, entitled "From Cradle to Grave". It's at King George's Hall, Northgate, Blackburn from 10am to 4pm and entry is £3.00. There's some great speakers lined up including Mark Bayley from TheGenealogist, Ian Hartas talking about BMDs on the Internet and Dr Brenda Hustler is exploring Irish ancestry.
